Oregon State University

Dr. Shuai Wu joined the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering at Oregon State University as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Fall 2025. Dr. Wu's research sits at the crossroads of mechanics, materials science, and advanced manufacturing.

Dr. Wu received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 2024, where his research focused on smart materials, active metamaterials, and soft robotics. His research led to over twenty-eight publications, including eight first-author and eight co-first-author ones in top-tier journals such as PNAS, Sci. Adv., Nat. Commun., Adv. Mater., Adv. Intell. Syst., and ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces. Dr. Wu was invited to be a reviewer for journals including Additive Manufacturing, Matter, Science Advances, Nature Communications, Soft Robotics, Journal of Applied Mechanics, Scientific Reports, Advanced Engineering Materials, Communications Engineering, and Materials Today Communications. Dr. Wu was the recipient of the Stanford Juan C. Simo Thesis Award (2024) and the ASME Applied Mechanics Division Student Presentation Competition - 1st Place (2024). Before his Ph.D., Dr. Wu earned an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego (2018) and a B.S. in Engineering Mechanics from Southwest Jiaotong University (2017).
